Mayors, officials, and experts from China and ASEAN nations convened in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in south China, to deliberate on urban openness and collaboration during a dialogue that commenced on Thursday.
Under the theme “Building a China-ASEAN Community of Friendship: Urban Openness and Cooperation,” the “Global Mayors Dialogue — Nanning” brought together participants from ASEAN countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Attendees engaged in discussions on various topics, such as urban openness and economic partnerships, cultural exchanges and integration, as well as best practices in urban governance.
Nong Shengwen, Party chief of Nanning, noted that economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN has significantly strengthened, with bilateral trade growing from over $600 billion in 2019 to nearly $1 trillion by 2024. He highlighted the deep integration of industrial, supply, and value chains between the two sides.
Atsaphangthong Siphandone, governor of Vientiane, Laos’ capital, emphasized the importance of friendship in fostering peace and security, noting that collaboration and openness between cities are key to achieving stability, prosperity, and sustainable development.
