China expressed its willingness to strengthen ties with the European Union (EU) to advance bilateral relations and contribute to global peace and stability, stated Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a press briefing on Wednesday.
Guo shared details of the phone conversation between the Chinese President and the European Council President, which occurred on Tuesday at the EU’s request. Highlighting global instability and emerging risks, Guo noted that China and Europe serve as vital forces for a multipolar world, key markets supporting globalization, and civilizations promoting diversity, underscoring the strategic significance of their relationship.
The discussion marked the first interaction between China’s top leader and the new EU leadership this year, setting a strategic tone for the evolving partnership. Guo emphasized that the conversation outlined priorities for advancing bilateral ties, fostering strategic trust, and expanding cooperation.
He also reiterated China’s commitment to implementing the leaders’ shared vision, strengthening communication, addressing differences constructively, and promoting mutual respect and multilateralism across various fields and levels.
