China, Africa reaffirm strategic ties on Africa Day as Chinese Foreign minister meets African diplomats.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a meeting in Beijing on Monday with African diplomatic envoys to mark Africa Day, bringing together ambassadors, chargés d’affaires, and African Union representatives from over 50 African nations.
Wang, also a senior Communist Party official, highlighted that President Xi Jinping has visited Africa five times in the new era and introduced key principles guiding China’s Africa policy, sincerity, real outcomes, friendship, and mutual benefit. These values, along with the spirit of China-Africa cooperation, have elevated ties to strategic partnerships.
He further noted that China-Africa relations have now been upgraded to an all-weather partnership with a shared future, entering what he called their best historical phase.
Referencing last September’s Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, Wang mentioned President Xi’s six proposals and ten partnership actions to support joint modernization efforts. He said the upcoming coordinator-level ministerial meeting will help implement summit outcomes, advance the Belt and Road Initiative, and promote the Global Development Initiative.
Wang stressed that in today’s turbulent international climate, stronger China-Africa solidarity is essential. He emphasized rejecting power politics, upholding multilateralism, defending the UN-based international order, and promoting freer trade and investment.
He reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Africa’s just positions and its increased global role.
In response, the African envoys expressed deep appreciation for China’s global initiatives and reaffirmed their strong confidence in China-Africa cooperation. They pledged to uphold the one-China principle, support China’s sovereignty and reunification efforts, and oppose foreign interference, while jointly defending the UN Charter and the shared interests of Global South countries alongside China.
