Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi addressed the high-level meeting of the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council via video on Monday. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to collaborating with other nations to uphold a correct perspective on human rights and advance reforms to enhance global human rights governance.

As a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Wang emphasized the fundamental mission of human rights governance, which should remain centered on the well-being of people.

He strongly opposed any interference in a country’s internal affairs under the guise of human rights, highlighting the importance of respecting national sovereignty, security, and the safety of citizens.

Wang underscored the necessity of fairness and justice in human rights governance, stating that the right to survival and development must be recognized as core human rights. He also condemned the use of double or multiple standards in addressing human rights issues.

Promoting dialogue and mutual learning is essential, Wang said, stressing that imposing one’s own values or models on others, as well as politicizing or weaponizing human rights, must be firmly rejected.

He reiterated China’s readiness to work with global partners in building a modern world marked by peaceful development, cooperation, and shared prosperity.

China remains dedicated to the well-being of humanity and all nations, committed to fostering international collaboration and cultural exchanges. Wang reaffirmed that China will continue to actively engage in international human rights efforts to help shape a better future for global human rights.
