“Charming Shanghai” cultural event kicks off in Brussels providing insights into Shanghai’s culture.
An event showcasing Shanghai’s cultural offerings began in Brussels on Sunday, marking the start of an art week focused on the Chinese city’s contemporary calligraphy and painting.
The event, titled “Charming Shanghai,” was launched at the China Cultural Center in Brussels, aiming to emphasize the city’s distinctive mix of Eastern and Western cultural influences.
Cultural Counselor Gao Wei from the Chinese Embassy in Belgium and Najima El Arbaoui, a Brussels Region parliament member, were notable attendees. El Arbaoui praised the exhibition’s diversity, noting that the range of calligraphy styles appeals to both general audiences and experts, enhancing the allure of Chinese art.
She highlighted the importance of cultural exchange, stating that such interactions enrich societies and promote mutual learning and blending of traditions.
Key features of the event included a display of Shanghai-style Qipao by local entrepreneurs, the debut of Shanghai’s promotional video “Link Future,” and a series of cultural lectures.
Moreover, scholars Zhu Xiaodong and Chen Xiang offered insights into Chinese calligraphy and landscape painting, drawing a significant audience.
Additionally, a 60-piece art exhibition by nine Shanghai artists showcased innovative techniques.
