Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has commended the work of the China Gezhouba Group of Companies (CGGC), which despite the corona pandemic, has “guaranteed” the momentum of construction activities at a “reasonable pace” in Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project (MDHP), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Project Director MDHP Muhammad Javed Afridi in an appreciation letter for the Chinese firm wrote that the ending of 2021 has been a period of “hard efforts and commitments” on the part of CGGC in executing the works on different components. However, CGGC kept the construction activities uninterrupted due to its “tremendous project management skills and comprehensive strength”, the official stated. The firm continues to work in Diversion Tunnels, Powerhouse, Power Intake, Switchyard and Project Colony of MDHP.
Mr. Afridi also hailed CGGC for the fulfillment of social responsibility and maintaining good relationships with the employer, the consultant, the security personnel, local tribal elders and villagers. According to him, the firm has lived up to the “expectation of being an international reputed and responsible Contractor”.
“I sincerely hope that CGGC and the Consultant will be on the same page and work towards one common goal to achieve the desired progress and guarantee river closure in 2022 and overall completion in Dec 2025,” Mr. Afridi added.
In March 2019, WAPDA awarded the contract of MDHP to a JV comprising CGGC, as the lead firm and Descon as its partner. The contract of the project is worth Rs 183.523 billion. MDHP being constructed on Swat River in Mohmand Tribal district will generate 800 MW electricity besides bringing 16,737 Acres of land under cultivation.
Besides MDHP, CGGC has also been appreciated by its employer in emergency and relief activities in Dasu, Kohistan. “CGGC has been very cooperative during any emergency situation like floods, traffic accidents, road blockages and landslides etc.,” wrote Managing Director, Dasu Hydropower Project in a letter of appreciation.
