China Energy Engineering Corporation, CEEC $13 Billion Investment elevates Pakistan’s energy sector, particularly focusing renewable energy resources.
CEEC unveils a comprehensive investment plan for Pakistan, prioritizing hydro, renewable energy, and transmission line projects.
During a media briefing in Islamabad, the company’s Managing Director, Wang Huaiwa, highlighted China’s dedication to bolstering Pakistan’s energy infrastructure development.
One of the key projects includes the Azad Patan hydropower project in Azad Kashmir, with an estimated cost of $1.5 billion. Negotiations are underway with the Pakistani government to achieve early financial closure for this 700-megawatt (MW) initiative.
Another significant project, the Sikhi Canari Hydropower Project, with an estimated cost of $1.96 billion, is nearing operational readiness. Once completed, it is expected to generate 884 megawatts (MW) of electricity.
CEEC has made substantial investments in Pakistan, with active projects exceeding $13 billion, bolstering the broader China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.
In Pakistan’s energy sector, China Energy’s projects contribute 6,000 MW out of the total 8,000 MW generated. Sixteen subsidiaries of CEEC (China Energy Engineering Corporation) are currently operational in Pakistan, employing over 100,000 local workers.
Wang Huaiwa emphasized ongoing projects like Dasu Hydro, Bhasha Dam, Balakot, and Mohmand Hydropower, showcasing China’s enduring strategic partnership with Pakistan. These initiatives are geared towards delivering environmentally sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions.
To date, CPEC has attracted $25.4 billion in direct investment, creating 236,000 jobs for Pakistanis. The initiative has also led to the construction of 510 highways and installation of 8,000 MW electricity projects, greatly enhancing Pakistan’s infrastructure and energy capacity.
