Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, in a press conference, discussed the potential Chinese investments resulting from the newly signed 20 MoUs, which he believes will act as a catalyst for Pakistan’s economic growth.

He emphasized that maintaining a consistent policy stance is crucial and expressed hope that the incoming government would uphold this policy.

During his recent visit to China, Kakar and his high-level delegation attended the Belt and Road Forum, where they engaged in bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The visit led to the signing of 20 agreements and MoUs, covering various areas of cooperation, including the Belt and Road Initiative, infrastructure, mining, industry, green development, health, space cooperation, and more.

Kakar stressed that these MoUs are in the planning stage, and their execution will be preceded by assessments of potential, market needs, and their impact on exports. A designated cell at the Prime Minister’s Office will oversee the follow-up and implementation of these agreements.

He also highlighted the prospect of Chinese private businesses investing in Pakistan’s agriculture, mining, and other sectors under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The caretaker PM pointed out the positive reception of the Pakistani leadership’s engagement with Chinese counterparts and urged consistency in relations with China to uphold the country’s dignity.

Kakar discussed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s address at the Belt and Road Forum, emphasizing the potential for connectivity and opportunities created by the Belt and Road Initiative.

During his visit, Kakar also met with the presidents of Russia, Sri Lanka, and Kenya, where the Kenyan president assured cooperation in the investigation into the killing of a Pakistani news anchor.

He acknowledged the minimal interaction between Pakistani and Chinese media and encouraged closer collaboration. Regarding Gaza, he mentioned humanitarian aid efforts and stressed the importance of a ceasefire, which Pakistan is actively working to achieve through collaborative efforts.

Kakar addressed questions about the upcoming elections and the return of Nawaz Sharif, emphasizing that all political parties have a role in the political process. He also discussed the economic situation, highlighting the reduction in the dollar rate and plans for follow-up actions to benefit the common man.

Regarding the media industry, Kakar suggested a need for the print media to revamp its business model to thrive as a private enterprise rather than relying on the state.

Notable government officials accompanied the prime minister during his visit to China.
