The business community is optimistic that the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, which starts on Tuesday in the capital, could help strengthen the country’s economy.
Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) President Mian Abuzar Shad stated that the event provides Pakistan with a chance to enhance its trade and economic relationships with key international partners, especially China. He emphasized that the summit will signal to global investors that Pakistan is open to business and investment opportunities.
Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Atif Ikram Sheikh echoed similar sentiments, noting that the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the SCO summit could be pivotal for the national economy. He highlighted Pakistan’s geographical advantages, regional trade potential, and ability to diversify its economic partnerships.
On Monday, a high-level delegation from the China Asia Economic Development Association (CAEDA) visited FPCCI headquarters to explore opportunities for investment, joint ventures, and trade.
Moreover, led by Qian Qiu Zhu, President of the Cross-Border Trade Development Committee, the CAEDA delegation expressed interest in establishing a Pakistan Zero-Tariff Trade Zone, setting up a service center for Chinese imports, and exploring multiple sectors of the Pakistani economy.
Additionally, FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh noted that CAEDA focuses on promoting economic cooperation between China and Asian nations, as well as other global partners, by fostering integration in finance, technology, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
