David Lammy, the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, will make an official visit to China from October 18 to 19, as announced by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Thursday.
The visit is at the invitation of Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the foreign minister, according to Mao.
In response to a related question, the spokesperson mentioned during a press briefing that both China and the UK are permanent members of the UN Security Council and major global economies. The long-term, stable development of their bilateral relationship serves the interests of both nations and aids in uniting the international community to tackle global challenges while promoting peace and development.
Mao noted that this will be the first visit to China by a cabinet minister from the new British government. The discussions will center on implementing the important consensus reached by the two countries’ leaders during their phone talks in August, with a focus on enhancing strategic mutual trust and strengthening dialogue and cooperation across various fields.
Further, Mao added “China is prepared to collaborate with the UK as a partner, emphasizing openness and cooperation, mutual benefit, and win-win outcomes to foster steady and long-term development in China-UK relations.”
