BRICS should contribute to multi-polar world: Chinese FM while speaking at a meeting of BRICS foreign ministers on Friday.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, urged BRICS nations to promote a multi-polar world and an inclusive form of economic globalization. Speaking at a meeting of BRICS foreign ministers on Friday, Wang emphasized that common security is essential for achieving enduring peace. He noted that no single country should dominate the global security agenda or enhance its own security at the expense of others.
Wang further encouraged BRICS countries to prioritize development, with a particular focus on reducing poverty, securing financing for development, and addressing energy and food security concerns in developing nations. He also highlighted the importance of seizing opportunities from the ongoing technological and industrial transformations.
Wang stressed the significance of practicing multilateralism and enhancing global governance. He advocated for increased participation of Global South countries in international decision-making and emphasized the need to strengthen their voice and representation in global institutions.
Later in the day, Wang attended a meeting between the Committee of Ten (C10) Heads of State and Government on UN Security Council Reform and foreign ministers of the five permanent UN Security Council members. During this meeting, he called for greater representation of developing countries, with a particular focus on creating special arrangements to increase Africa’s participation.
