During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, Beijing welcomed 8.21 million tourists, marking a 5.4% increase compared to the previous year, according to the city’s Culture and Tourism Bureau.
The three-day holiday, spanning May 31 to June 2, generated 10.77 billion yuan (approximately 1.49 billion USD) in tourism-related income for Beijing, reflecting a 6.7% year-on-year rise.
To stimulate tourism, the city organized over 1,700 events featuring cultural attractions like dragon boat celebrations, traditional heritage fairs, and Hanfu (ancient Chinese clothing) experiences.
The Dragon Boat Festival coincided with Children’s Day on June 1, boosting demand for family-oriented and educational recreational activities.
Beijing also saw a surge in commercial entertainment, with 1,119 performances drawing 458,000 attendees and earning 140 million yuan in ticket sales; up 32%, 75%, and 130%, respectively, from last year.
Inbound tourism flourished during the holiday, with 67,000 international visitors, a 35.8% year-on-year rise, contributing 720 million yuan in revenue, up 41.1% from the same period last year.
