A half-marathon for humanoid robots is set to take place in Beijing this April, marking an exciting challenge for the rapidly advancing field of robotics.
The event, open to robot clubs from around the globe, is currently inviting humanoid robots to compete, as stated by the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area Administrative Committee.
One of the participants will be “Tiangong,” a humanoid robot that runs at an average speed of 10 kilometers per hour. Developed by China’s Embodied Artificial Intelligence Robotics Innovation Center, Tiangong participated in the Yizhuang Half Marathon in Beijing last November, running at both the start and finish lines alongside human competitors.
Chinese humanoid robots are showing impressive improvements in athletic performance. In October of the previous year, a robot developed by Beijing’s RobotEra climbed the Great Wall, demonstrating its stability and adaptability across diverse terrains.
Additionally, this week, a Chinese team revealed a robotic dog that achieved a remarkable feat by joining the 10-second club in the 100-meter sprint.
Looking ahead, Beijing is also planning a sporting event in August, featuring humanoid robots competing in track and field, football, and other skill-based challenges.
