Army Brass demands ‘concrete actions’ by Afghan govt against terrorism during the 267th Corps Commanders’ Conference held at GHQ.
With the country witnessing a surge in terrorist attacks, the military’s senior leadership on Tuesday voiced deep concern over the continued use of Afghan territory by terrorists targeting Pakistan. They urged the interim Afghan government to take “concrete and tangible actions” to address this issue.
This concern was raised during the 267th Corps Commanders’ Conference held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, under the chairmanship of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, according to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military leadership emphasized the urgent need for the interim Afghan government to take decisive measures against Fitna Al Khawarij instead of issuing mere denials. They reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to implementing all necessary steps to safeguard the nation and its citizens.
This meeting followed a recent terrorist attack in Balochistan, in which 18 soldiers lost their lives while preventing an act of terrorism. Subsequent clearance operations resulted in the elimination of 23 terrorists.
As per ISPR, the terrorists had attempted to set up roadblocks in the Mangocher area of Kalat district. The statement added that this attack was orchestrated by hostile external forces with the intention of destabilizing Balochistan by targeting innocent civilians.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies swiftly mobilized, successfully foiling the terrorist plot. In the ensuing operation, 12 terrorists were neutralized, ensuring the protection of local residents.
Despite the success of the operation, ISPR confirmed that 18 soldiers had made the ultimate sacrifice. It further stated that ongoing sanitization operations aimed at bringing the perpetrators, facilitators, and supporters of this attack to justice.
Following the attack, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and COAS Munir visited Quetta, where they met with security personnel receiving medical care at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
During the conference, participants paid tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies (LEAs), and civilians who had laid down their lives in the pursuit of peace and stability.
The forum also underscored the importance of accelerating socio-economic development initiatives in Balochistan, recognizing the urgency of countering externally propagated narratives of exclusion.
Reaffirming its commitment to ensuring peace in Balochistan, the military leadership stated that no entity would be allowed to disturb stability in the province. They pledged to thwart foreign-backed groups seeking to mislead and radicalize Baloch youth, with strong support from the local population.
Acknowledging the high level of operational readiness among military formations, the army chief emphasized the need for continued mission-oriented training, increased military collaboration, and joint exercises focused on both conventional warfare and counter-terrorism operations.
The forum conducted a thorough evaluation of the internal and regional security landscape, assessing potential threats. Discussions also addressed the prevailing situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary.
In light of Kashmir Solidarity Day, the military leadership strongly condemned the ongoing human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), warning that such actions posed a significant threat to regional peace and stability.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination, the forum emphasized the importance of international intervention in addressing these persistent human rights violations, as outlined in UN Security Council resolutions.
The military leadership also took serious note of recent “reckless and provocative statements” made by the Indian military leadership, labeling them as irresponsible and harmful to regional stability.
Addressing the forum, COAS Munir stated that such baseless remarks from the Indian military reflected growing frustration and were an attempt to divert attention from India’s internal issues and ongoing human rights violations.
He further warned that any misadventure against Pakistan would be met with the state’s full and resolute force.
Concluding the conference, General Munir reiterated that the military leadership remains fully aware of the complex challenges facing Pakistan. He reaffirmed their commitment to fulfilling constitutional responsibilities with the unwavering support of the nation.
