Apple donates 30 million yuan in support for coding education in China as CEO Tim Cook was on a tour to Zhejiang University.
Apple, the U.S. tech giant, announced on Wednesday that it is increasing its efforts to support the next generation of developers in China by donating 30 million yuan (approximately 4.18 million U.S. dollars) to Zhejiang University.
Apple CEO Tim Cook, during his visit to the university in eastern China, emphasized the significance of coding as a tool for creativity, communication, and problem-solving. He expressed pride in expanding Apple’s decade-long partnership with Zhejiang University to equip aspiring coders with the skills needed to develop innovative applications and establish successful businesses.
According to Apple’s statement, the fund aims to bridge students with industry leaders and investors through workshops, internships, and mentorship programs. It will provide business-related training to help students excel in the evolving iOS app economy and other sectors.
As part of this initiative, Zhejiang University will collaborate with Apple to launch the Apple App Incubation Fund, which will offer specialized training in app development, product design, marketing, and business operations using the latest technologies.
This new financial support builds upon Apple’s ten-year involvement with Zhejiang University’s Mobile Application Innovation Contest, which has benefited around 30,000 participants from nearly 1,000 universities across China.
Apple’s donation comes shortly after the company established a 720 million yuan clean energy fund in China on Monday. Cook’s visit to the country also included his participation in the opening ceremony of the China Development Forum in Beijing.
