Ambassador Jiang Zaidong reinforces stronger China, Pakistan ties as he held a discussion with media professionals.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, conducted a discussion with senior members of the Pakistani media, shedding light on China’s neighborhood diplomacy, the strategic China-Pakistan partnership, and China’s approach to ongoing global economic concerns.
He reflected on President Xi Jinping’s address at the recent Central Conference on Work Related to Neighboring Countries held in Beijing. The ambassador emphasized that Xi’s vision centers around establishing a shared future with neighboring nations based on friendship, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusivity. He noted that this concept has already gained consensus with 17 neighboring states, including Pakistan, and that China is the largest trading partner for 18 regional countries.
Turning to bilateral ties, Ambassador Jiang reaffirmed Pakistan’s importance in China’s regional foreign policy. He pointed out that 2025 will commemorate a decade since President Xi’s significant visit to Pakistan, and 2026 will mark 75 years of diplomatic relations—both serving as opportunities to strengthen their comprehensive strategic alliance.
Jiang laid out four priority areas for future collaboration:
Boosting Strategic Mutual Trust – Backing Pakistan’s independence and development path.
Integrating Development Efforts – Aligning the Belt and Road framework with Pakistan’s “5Es” agenda to upgrade CPEC.
Enhancing Security Cooperation – Operationalizing the China-Pakistan MoU under the Global Security Initiative (GSI).
Promoting Cultural Links – Expanding exchanges and reinforcing cultural harmony.
On the international economic front, the ambassador criticized the U.S. for its widespread tariff policies, labeling them as economic coercion and unilateralism. He warned that such policies, which have historically failed, could now lead to inflation, job losses, and economic decline. Despite this, he highlighted China’s economic resilience, citing 5.4% GDP and 6.9% export growth in the first quarter of 2025.
Ambassador Jiang affirmed that China would take decisive steps to safeguard its economic interests and sovereignty, while maintaining an open economic outlook and supporting shared global growth.
In conclusion, he called on developing nations, especially the Global South, to stand united against protectionist trade practices and defend multilateralism. He emphasized that both China and Pakistan have a critical role in promoting justice, fairness, and inclusive globalization.
