Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has proposed establishing five political corridors between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Pakistani political parties to strengthen long-term cooperation between the two countries.
He presented the proposal at the “Symposium on Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building” in Islamabad, highlighting the importance of political engagement and exchanges, particularly among young leaders.
Five Political Corridors to Complement Economic Cooperation
Ahsan Iqbal said the proposed political corridors would complement the five economic corridors under Pakistan’s development vision and CPEC 2.0.
The five proposed areas of cooperation include:
- Strategic dialogue: Strengthening communication between political leaderships.
- Governance and development learning: Sharing experiences in public service and national development.
- Youth and leadership development: Creating opportunities for young political leaders to learn and exchange ideas.
- Cultural connectivity: Expanding cultural understanding and people-to-people engagement.
- Regional peace and cooperation: Promoting dialogue and collaboration on regional issues.
Ahsan Iqbal Calls for Youth and Leadership Exchanges
The planning minister proposed reciprocal exchanges between young leaders of the CPC and Pakistani political parties.
He suggested launching an initial group next year, with structured learning opportunities at China’s Central Party School.
He also said Pakistan’s political parties could learn from the CPC’s focus on public service, self-reform, organisational discipline and long-term national planning.
Referring to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s commitment to these principles, he stressed that national development plans should extend beyond electoral cycles while remaining within Pakistan’s democratic framework.
URAAN Pakistan and CPEC 2.0 in Focus
Ahsan Iqbal linked the proposed political corridors with Pakistan’s broader development priorities, including URAAN Pakistan and CPEC 2.0.
He emphasized the importance of connecting political cooperation with long-term economic planning and institutional development.
The minister also congratulated Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Communist Party of China on the successful conclusion of the Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee.
He said leadership should be measured not only by achievements during a person’s tenure but also by the lasting institutions, policies and foundations created for future generations.
