The China-Pakistan Information Corridor (CPIC) has been launched to counter misinformation, promote authentic narratives and highlight the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China.
Speaking at the launch ceremony in Islamabad on October 26, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning described the initiative as timely and necessary, emphasizing the importance of sharing positive stories about cooperation between the two countries.
The launch coincides with celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations. The initiative aims to connect people in both countries through stronger information exchange and public engagement.
Mao Ning Highlights the Role of Authentic Stories
Mao Ning said Pakistan and China had many stories of friendship and cooperation to share with the world. She emphasized that authentic narratives could shape public understanding, particularly as fake news and misinformation continue to pose challenges.
Recalling the two countries’ longstanding friendship, Mao said China had not forgotten Pakistan’s assistance following the devastating earthquake in China in 2008.
She described the two countries as all-weather, iron brothers and spoke positively about the hospitality of the Pakistani people, noting that her personal experiences in Pakistan had made her feel at home.
CPEC Has Improved Infrastructure and Energy Supplies
Mao highlighted the contribution of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Pakistan’s development, saying it had helped stabilize energy supplies, improve infrastructure and support people’s well-being.
She also shared the story of Pakistan’s first female metro train driver as an example of women’s professional achievements.
Mao recalled the driver’s determination to demonstrate her abilities without fear, describing her achievement as an inspiring example of the opportunities available to Pakistani women.
She expressed confidence that CPEC would create further opportunities for women and said the story illustrated the positive outcomes of Pakistan-China collaboration.
According to Mao, the four pillars of the China-Pakistan Information Corridor would help communicate more stories of bilateral cooperation and improve mutual understanding.
Chinese Ambassador Highlights CPEC 2.0 Cooperation
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong said considerable efforts had gone into developing the CPIC and bringing it to launch. He described the initiative as an important platform for improving public understanding of bilateral relations and advancing cooperation under CPEC 2.0.
Jiang also highlighted agriculture as a key sector for Pakistan’s economy and an important area of cooperation under the second phase of CPEC.
He welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s initiative to promote agricultural collaboration and said bilateral agricultural trade had recorded year-on-year growth during the first eight months of the year.
The ambassador linked agricultural modernization and stronger trade with the priorities of the leadership in both countries.
Pakistan-China Space Cooperation Advances
Jiang also referred to the April 23 announcement concerning the planned participation of a Pakistani astronaut in a mission to China’s space station.
He described the development as another milestone in the growing partnership between Pakistan and China, reflecting expanding cooperation beyond traditional economic sectors.
Sharing his observations of Pakistan, Jiang said he had witnessed improvements in the lives of ordinary people.
China Calls for Stronger Governance Exchanges
Jiang discussed China’s recent Communist Party plenary session and the changing international environment, emphasizing China’s approach to global engagement and its vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity.
He said exchanges and mutual learning in governance remained important areas of Pakistan-China cooperation. China, he added, was ready to strengthen engagement with Pakistani counterparts and deepen collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Jiang expressed confidence that the Information Corridor would support public understanding, advance CPEC 2.0 cooperation and encourage greater mutual learning between the two countries.
Atta Tarar Emphasizes Shared History and Friendship
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said Pakistan and China shared cultural traditions and a longstanding bond of friendship.
He noted that generations in both countries had passed down stories of mutual support, cooperation and goodwill, helping preserve the relationship over time.
The launch of the China-Pakistan Information Corridor aims to build on this history by strengthening information exchange, promoting authentic narratives and expanding people-to-people connections.
The initiative is intended to complement broader economic and strategic cooperation between Pakistan and China under CPEC 2.0.
