Riphah International University is seeking to establish Pakistan’s first artificial intelligence (AI) hospital through a strategic partnership with China’s Tairex, a healthcare technology company known for developing the Agent Hospital system.
The system was incubated at Tsinghua University’s Institute for AI Industry Research. The proposed collaboration aims to introduce AI into medical education, clinical diagnosis, healthcare research and patient follow-up.
AI to Support Medical Education and Diagnosis
Under the proposed initiative, AI-powered tools would support doctors in clinical decision-making, while virtual patients would help medical students develop their skills in a simulated environment.
The project is also expected to strengthen medical research and improve patient follow-up by integrating AI into different stages of healthcare delivery.
However, the initiative would retain human oversight, with doctors remaining responsible for clinical decisions.
Addressing Pakistan’s Healthcare Challenges
The proposed AI hospital aims to help address challenges facing Pakistan’s healthcare system, including limited public funding and unequal access to medical facilities.
Integrating AI into medical training and clinical services could create opportunities to improve healthcare delivery, support medical professionals and expand access to advanced technologies.
The initiative also reflects growing interest in applying artificial intelligence to healthcare, particularly in areas where technology can support medical professionals and improve the delivery of services.
Alignment With Pakistan’s National AI Policy
The proposed collaboration aligns with Pakistan’s National AI Policy 2025, which provides a broader framework for developing and adopting artificial intelligence across different sectors.
If established, the AI hospital could mark a significant step in Pakistan’s efforts to incorporate advanced digital technologies into medical education, research and clinical practice.
The project remains a proposed initiative, with its ultimate impact depending on implementation, clinical validation and the effective integration of AI tools into existing healthcare systems.
