Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will begin a three-day official visit to the Kyrgyzstan today.
He is visiting the country at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. The visit aims to strengthen Pakistan’s engagement with Kyrgyzstan and other regional partners.
Shehbaz to Attend SCO Summits
During his stay in Bishkek, the prime minister will attend the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of State.
He will also participate in the SCO Plus Summit. These meetings will provide an opportunity to discuss regional cooperation and shared challenges.
Pakistan to Assume SCO Chairmanship
A key part of the visit will be Pakistan’s assumption of the SCO Council of Heads of State chairmanship.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will take over the chairmanship for 2026–2027. The role will give Pakistan an opportunity to contribute to the organization’s agenda and strengthen regional cooperation.
Strengthening Regional Engagement
The visit highlights Pakistan’s growing engagement with Central Asian countries. Moreover, participation in SCO forums will provide opportunities for dialogue on trade, connectivity, security, and economic cooperation.
The prime minister’s visit is expected to further strengthen Pakistan’s regional diplomatic engagement.
