Pakistan has strongly condemned a Houthi attack on a non-combatant commercial vessel in the Red Sea that reportedly killed three Pakistani nationals and injured another.
Pakistan Expresses Condolences
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said he learned with deep concern about the incident involving the commercial vessel.
According to information available so far, three Pakistani citizens lost their lives while another sustained injuries. Dar expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who died in the attack.
Attack Raises Maritime Security Concerns
Dar said attacks on commercial vessels endanger innocent lives and violate international law.
He also warned that such incidents pose a serious threat to freedom of navigation, maritime security, and the safety of commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
The Red Sea remains an important international shipping route. Any disruption can therefore affect commercial vessels and regional maritime security.
Pakistan Coordinates With Saudi Arabia and Yemen
Pakistan is in contact with the relevant Saudi authorities and the internationally recognized Government of Yemen to establish further details about the incident.
Meanwhile, Dar directed the Embassy of Pakistan in Riyadh to coordinate immediately with the concerned authorities.
He also instructed officials to pursue all necessary measures for the retrieval and repatriation of the mortal remains of the deceased Pakistani nationals.
The embassy will also work to ensure that the injured Pakistani national receives all possible assistance.
Pakistan Closely Monitoring the Situation
Pakistan said it is closely following developments surrounding the incident and will remain in contact with the relevant authorities.
The government is continuing efforts to confirm further details and provide assistance to the affected Pakistani nationals and their families.
