China’s domestically developed Snow Leopard 6×6 wheeled vehicle completed over 10,000 km of testing in Antarctica, filling a technological gap in polar-land wheeled mobility.
Tested across sea ice, gravel, soft and hard snow, and solid ice, the vehicle achieved 28 km/h on soft snow, 42 km/h on hard snow, and 65 km/h top speed on solid ice while maintaining stability and safety.
During China’s 42nd Antarctic expedition, the Snow Leopard improved inter-station travel, rapid task deployment, and rescue response, significantly enhancing the expedition’s efficiency. The team also plans scientific drilling and sampling on ice sheets over 3,000 meters thick.
