China-backed water technology partnership has ushered in a new phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) signed a memorandum of understanding with China’s Lingzhi Equipment Group.
The MoU focuses on collaboration in sewage treatment and reclaimed water initiatives, beginning with a feasibility study at Pumping Station No. 2. The study will assess technical design, financial viability, operational sustainability, and the integration of Chinese water treatment technologies.
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab highlighted the city’s need to move beyond outdated water and sewerage infrastructure, stressing energy-efficient and environmentally responsible solutions. Senior KW&SC officials said the partnership aligns with CPEC Phase Two, which emphasizes sustainable development, climate resilience, and technology transfer to support urban water infrastructure.
