Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq held high-level discussions with China’s top legislative officials, including Zhao Leji of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and Wang Huning of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). The meetings focused on establishing a formal working framework to strengthen Pakistan-China parliamentary cooperation and to institutionalize collaboration between the two legislatures for the first time in history.
During the talks, Speaker Sadiq highlighted the importance of exchanging parliamentary practices, enhancing cooperation in international forums, and developing mechanisms for sustained engagement. Both sides agreed to draft formal agreements, hold joint committee sessions, and facilitate virtual meetings. Areas of focus include industry, trade, mining, exports, and other strategic sectors to better guide government decision-making and support bilateral development initiatives.
The discussions also covered training programs for Pakistani political workers at China’s Party School, parliamentarian exchange visits, and sharing legislative best practices. Speaker Sadiq emphasized that closer coordination between standing committees particularly agriculture, defense, petroleum, and mining—will strengthen Pakistan-China cooperation under CPEC 2.0 and the Belt and Road Initiative, ensuring continued progress on shared national and regional priorities.
