President Xi Jinping met with U.S. President Donald J. Trump in Busan on October 30, 2025, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to stabilising China-U.S. relations and deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.
President Xi emphasised that China and the United States should act as partners rather than rivals, acknowledging that occasional differences are natural between two major global economies. He called for both nations to “stay the right course” and ensure the steady advancement of bilateral ties, describing the China-U.S. relationship as a “giant ship” that must navigate global challenges with prudence and cooperation.
Highlighting China’s economic resilience, President Xi noted a 5.2% growth rate in the first three quarters of the year, with trade expanding by 4%. He said China’s vast and dynamic economy remains capable of managing risks while pursuing reform and high-quality development. He added that China’s focus lies in managing its internal progress, improving the well-being of its people, and sharing development opportunities globally—without seeking to challenge any nation.
Xi further revealed that China’s new Five-Year Plan, adopted at the 20th CPC Central Committee’s plenary session, would guide sustainable economic and social progress from 2026 to 2030, creating new opportunities for cooperation with the United States. Both sides, he said, had reached a consensus on several trade and economic issues, agreeing to maintain communication and implement mutual commitments to boost global market confidence.
President Xi also called for enhanced collaboration on areas such as artificial intelligence, anti-money laundering, infectious disease control, and transnational crime prevention. He suggested that continued dialogue and cooperation on global platforms, including the upcoming APEC 2026 in China and the G20 Summit in the U.S., could further global growth and stability.
President Trump praised President Xi’s leadership, calling him “a great friend” and describing China as a “great country and a key partner” of the United States. He expressed optimism that the relationship between the two nations would reach new heights, enabling them to “achieve great things together for the world.”
Both leaders agreed to expand cooperation in trade, energy, and people-to-people exchanges, while maintaining regular communication. President Trump invited President Xi to visit the United States and expressed his own intention to visit China early next year.
The meeting was also attended by senior Chinese officials, including Cai Qi, Wang Yi, and He Lifeng.
