A cross-university team of Pakistani and Chinese doctoral students won a medal at the 2025 China International College Students Innovation Competition for their project to make affordable medical products accessible in developing countries.
The collaboration between Pakistan’s Muheet (Li Xiang) and China’s Xiao Xilin from Hefei University of Technology stands as a model of youth-driven innovation and cross-border cooperation. Their project challenges Western market monopolies by introducing cost-effective Chinese medical devices, including blood glucose monitors, to Belt and Road countries.
With seven years of experience in China’s medical device industry, Muheet explained that high equipment costs still prevent many Pakistani families from accessing basic healthcare. He said, “Chinese medical technology offers affordable and reliable solutions for developing nations.” His remarks underscored their shared goal of promoting health equity and sustainable innovation.
Meanwhile, Xiao Xilin called the award the culmination of years of academic and research work. He said, “True innovation must be practical — it should bring warmth and benefit to people’s lives.” His statement reflected the team’s focus on real-world impact and accessibility.
Judges praised their initiative as a “perfect fusion of practical insight and advanced R&D.” The project demonstrates how China-Pakistan collaboration can create tangible solutions to global healthcare challenges.
Having spent seven years at Nanchang Hangkong University, Muheet described himself as a “bridge between two iron brothers.” He added that China’s openness and technological leadership are paving the way for a more inclusive global innovation ecosystem.
Overall, this achievement highlights not only the strength of China-Pakistan academic ties but also the ability of youth-led innovation to drive social change through accessible technology.
