Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman in Beijing on Monday.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, highlighted the longstanding mutual respect and equal partnership between China and Croatia. He noted that their high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has yielded significant outcomes.
Wang, emphasizing that this year marks the 20th anniversary of their comprehensive cooperative partnership, called for enhanced engagement at all levels. He urged both sides to deepen mutual understanding and trust, align the BRI with Croatia’s national development plans, and broaden cooperation across various sectors.
Wang also emphasized that China’s cooperation with Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) is a vital component of China-EU relations. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to working with Croatia on the basis of openness and mutual benefit, while jointly upholding multilateralism and free trade to tackle global challenges.
Marking the 50th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic relations, Wang said that a stable and constructive China-EU relationship aligns with the shared interests of both sides. He expressed hope that Croatia would continue playing a positive role in advancing this partnership.
Radman recalled that in over 30 years of diplomatic ties, China and Croatia have built strong relations grounded in mutual respect and benefit. He reaffirmed Croatia’s adherence to the one-China policy, recognizing the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government and Taiwan as an inseparable part of China.
Radman said Croatia values close high-level exchanges and seeks stronger cooperation with China in trade, investment, and connectivity. He also welcomed more Chinese tourists to visit Croatia.
He acknowledged China’s role as a key economic and trade partner for Europe and expressed support for resolving EU-China differences through constructive dialogue. He emphasized the value of China-CEEC cooperation as a platform to boost economic and investment ties and reaffirmed Croatia’s commitment to active participation.
Finally, Radman praised China’s significant role in promoting global peace and expressed Croatia’s readiness to enhance multilateral collaboration with China.
