The Ministerial Meeting on the Global Civilization Dialogue began today in Beijing, drawing over 600 delegates from nearly 140 countries and regions. The event is themed “Safeguarding Diversity of Human Civilizations for World Peace and Development,” underscoring global efforts to promote mutual understanding and cooperation.

Held from July 10 to 11, the two-day conference is a key component of President Xi Jinping’s Global Civilization Initiative, which emphasizes the importance of cross-cultural dialogue and inclusive development in an increasingly interconnected world.

Jointly organized by the Publicity and International Departments of the CPC Central Committee and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conference aims to promote civilizational respect through cultural heritage, innovation, media collaboration, and people-to-people engagement.

In a congratulatory message, President Xi Jinping stressed that mutual respect and shared values among civilizations are vital for enduring global peace. His vision set the tone for the event and highlighted China’s commitment to promoting civilizational dialogue.

Following Xi’s message, Cai Qi, a senior CPC leader, delivered the keynote address, reaffirming China’s dedication to civilizational diversity and inclusive global development.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres also sent a congratulatory message, emphasizing the need for intercultural dialogue in a world increasingly shaped by fragmentation and division.

The opening session featured former leaders from Indonesia, Namibia, Japan, and Belgium, who all called for stronger efforts to bridge cultural divides and foster understanding amid current geopolitical tensions.

The session ended with a “Story Sharing” segment, moderated by CGTN’s Wang Guan, where individuals from the U.S., Kenya, and Denmark shared personal stories that illustrated how the Global Civilization Initiative is positively impacting lives and communities.

The launch of the event is being seen as a landmark effort to form a multilateral cultural consensus at a time of global uncertainty. Introduced in 2023, President Xi’s initiative promotes mutual learning, respect for civilizational diversity, and inclusive cooperation as the foundation for global peace.

Pakistan is actively participating in the forum, with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar scheduled to speak at a sub-forum focused on cultural heritage and innovation. His presence reflects Pakistan’s support for civilizational dialogue and growing media and cultural ties with China.

The ministerial meeting is expected to conclude on Thursday with a formal declaration that outlines the shared vision and commitments of participating countries.

The final outcome document will affirm collective support for cultural diversity, inclusive global development, and peace through civilizational understanding.
