Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will undertake an official visit to China from June 22 to 26, following an invitation from Chinese Premier Li Qiang, as announced by a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson on Friday.
Spokesperson Guo Jiakun highlighted that Prime Minister Wong’s decision to make China his first international destination outside ASEAN since assuming office in May underscores the significant value he places on China-Singapore relations.
During the visit, Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet with Wong, while Premier Li Qiang will hold official talks with him. Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, will also meet with the visiting prime minister. The two sides will engage in detailed discussions on bilateral ties and key regional and global issues.
Guo noted that under the strategic direction of both countries’ leadership, China-Singapore relations have continued to progress positively. In 2023, leaders of both nations elevated their ties to an all-round, high-quality, future-oriented partnership, setting a clear path for their collaboration in the new era.
Marking the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations this year, Guo said China anticipates this visit will strengthen strategic dialogue, expand cooperation across various sectors, reinforce support for multilateralism and free trade, and further elevate China-Singapore relations from this new point of departure.
