China, Turkmenistan pledge closer cooperation with full-potential as Chinese President meets with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday expressed China’s willingness to work closely with Turkmenistan to fully realize the potential of their cooperation, based on mutual respect and win-win principles.
Speaking during a meeting with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the sidelines of the second China-Central Asia Summit in Astana, Xi emphasized that strong political trust, shared interests, and complementary strengths provide a solid foundation for deepening China-Turkmenistan relations.
He stated that China is ready to expand the scale and scope of bilateral cooperation and to jointly build a China-Turkmenistan community with a shared future, promoting cooperation across a broad range of sectors.
Xi urged the two sides to accelerate the alignment of China’s Belt and Road Initiative with Turkmenistan’s strategy to revive the Great Silk Road, enhance collaboration in the natural gas sector, develop non-resource-based cooperation, improve trade structures, and strengthen regional connectivity.
He called for deeper cultural engagement, building on the successful organization of cultural years in both countries, and emphasized the need to establish cultural centers and boost people-to-people exchanges.
Xi also underscored the importance of stronger collaboration in law enforcement, security, and defense, including joint efforts to combat terrorism, separatism, extremism, and cyber threats.
He reiterated China’s commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous neighborhood guided by principles of friendship, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness, with high-quality Belt and Road cooperation serving as the central platform.
China supports Turkmenistan’s bid to join the World Trade Organization and its neutral role in regional diplomacy, including its hosting of the 5th Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of Afghanistan’s Neighboring Countries.
Finally, Xi said China looks forward to working with Turkmenistan on regional and international matters, jointly defending the multilateral trading system, and safeguarding the shared interests of developing nations in the Global South.
