Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, held separate meetings in Beijing on Monday with foreign ministers and representatives attending the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum.
In his meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Wang noted that the recent talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel in Moscow were both productive and significant, providing direction for the future of China-Cuba relations.
Wang emphasized that China remains committed to supporting Cuba in its rightful efforts to defend its sovereignty and national dignity, opposing blockades and sanctions, and advancing the development of a shared future between the two countries.
Rodriguez conveyed sincere appreciation for China’s consistent backing in Cuba’s resistance against sanctions and its meaningful assistance during economic hardships. He affirmed Cuba’s continued commitment to the one-China principle and its intention to work with China to implement the outcomes of the recent presidential meeting in Moscow.
During his meeting with Uruguayan Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin, Wang expressed China’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Uruguay under the Belt and Road framework, and to enhance their comprehensive strategic partnership through deeper political trust, expanded cooperation, and closer coordination in multilateral forums.
Lubetkin voiced Uruguay’s high regard for President Xi’s global initiatives, reiterated support for free trade, and confirmed Uruguay’s commitment to multilateralism. He also reaffirmed Uruguay’s firm support for the one-China principle and the “one country, two systems” policy.
In talks with Peruvian Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer Salcedo, Wang recalled the mutual visits between President Xi and President Dina Boluarte last year, noting China’s willingness to act on their shared agreements and push the China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership to new levels.
Wang highlighted the inauguration of Chancay Port by both leaders as a symbol of unity and cooperation among developing nations, emphasizing China’s interest in expanding win-win cooperation with Peru across various sectors.
Schialer reaffirmed Peru’s support for the one-China policy and expressed eagerness to strengthen collaboration in areas such as politics, trade, science, culture, and technology. He also voiced Peru’s desire to jointly develop the Chancay Port Industrial Park, advance free trade, and expedite a bilateral tax treaty.
In his discussion with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil, Wang noted the fruitful meeting between Presidents Xi and Maduro in Moscow, which outlined the direction for deepening China-Venezuela ties.
Wang reiterated China’s support for the unity and self-empowerment of Latin American countries and expressed willingness to work together with Venezuela and others in the region to resist hegemonic actions and uphold global fairness.
Gil stated that Venezuela is proud of its all-weather strategic partnership with China and the notable achievements in bilateral cooperation. He praised China’s role in defending international norms, particularly the UN Charter, and expressed Venezuela’s strong support for China’s principled positions.
When meeting with Guyanese Foreign Minister Hugh Todd, Wang stated that China aims to enhance Belt and Road cooperation with Guyana based on the consensus reached by their leaders. He suggested deepening collaboration in areas like digital and green economies, health, education, and cultural exchange.
Wang added that China would encourage its businesses to invest in Guyana, helping to upgrade local industries and foster economic independence. Todd described China as a trustworthy partner and expressed a desire to strengthen mutually beneficial ties. He welcomed more Chinese investment, appreciated China’s leadership in global governance, and expressed readiness to uphold multilateralism and international law.
In a meeting with Nicaragua’s presidential adviser Laureano Ortega Murillo and Foreign Minister Valdrack Ludwing Jaentschke Whitaker, Wang expressed China’s intent to deepen political trust, offer support within its means, and prioritize development-focused cooperation with Nicaragua.
Wang also noted that China supports Chinese businesses investing in Nicaragua and anticipates continued friendly ties and a supportive business environment from the Nicaraguan side.
Laureano reaffirmed Nicaragua’s adherence to the one-China policy and its opposition to unilateral tariff measures. He voiced strong support for the Belt and Road Initiative and President Xi’s three global initiatives, highlighting their relevance to peace, security, and development.
While meeting Colombian Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia, Wang congratulated Colombia on assuming the rotating presidency of the China-CELAC Forum. He emphasized China’s long-term strategic perspective on China-Colombia relations and proposed taking the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties as a chance to boost Belt and Road cooperation.
Sarabia thanked China for its support in Colombia’s peace process and economic diversification efforts. She expressed interest in joining the Belt and Road Initiative, promoting deeper bilateral cooperation, and welcomed increased Chinese investment in Colombia.
