CPEC to be a transformative project for Pakistan, Governor KP stated while addressing International Seminar held at the Governor House.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a transformative project that holds the key to Pakistan’s economic advancement, regional peace, and long-term prosperity.
While speaking at the International CPEC Seminar held at the Governor House in Peshawar, Governor Kundi emphasized that CPEC is vital for reshaping Pakistan’s development trajectory and enhancing national progress.
The seminar, organized by Pak-China Window, attracted a distinguished audience that included Iranian Consul General in Peshawar Ali Banafsha Khwa, former ambassadors Naghmana Hashmi and Sohail Mahmood, CPNE provincial president Tahir Farooq, academic Dr. Khalid Khan, business professionals, investors, journalists, and students.
Prominent voices like Tahir Farooq, Zahid Latif, and Dr. Khalid Khan highlighted CPEC’s importance and the high hopes attached to its second phase. Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed also shared his thoughts through a video message, reaffirming the corridor’s strategic relevance, especially for KP.
Governor Kundi pointed out that so far, the only completed CPEC project in KP is the Havelian to Dera Ismail Khan road, and noted that work connecting Balochistan to DI Khan under the second phase is progressing slowly.
He stressed the need for KP’s inclusion in official delegations to China, so the province can advocate for long-term projects and foreign investments like other provinces do.
Kundi also credited former President Asif Ali Zardari for playing a crucial role in initiating the CPEC project through his diplomatic engagements with China.
While he appreciated the Rashakai Economic Zone, the Governor raised concerns about the feasibility of the Daraban Economic Zone, questioning whether investors would find it an attractive destination.
He also commended the seminar’s organizers—particularly Amjad Aziz Malik—for arranging the event and reiterated that the Governor House welcomes all efforts aimed at the province’s development.
The seminar concluded with Governor Kundi presenting commemorative shields to the speakers in recognition of their participation.
