China’s hydrogen drone sets 30-hour flight record highlighting China’s capabilities in sustainable aviation technologies.
A domestically developed hydrogen-powered drone from China has recently set a national record by completing a continuous 30-hour flight, according to the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).
The 50-kilogram class drone is a collaborative project between AVIC Chengdu Aircraft Industrial (Group) Co., Ltd. and Tsinghua University, marking a significant advancement in the country’s hydrogen-powered aviation technology.
The developers noted that the aircraft achieved an integrated design breakthrough in its flight, control, and propulsion systems, optimized specifically for hydrogen fuel cell performance.
The milestone flight was conducted in Dujiangyan, located in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
For its take-off, a system was employed that launched the drone from the roof of an unmanned vehicle in motion, effectively simulating a take-off in a non-traditional runway environment.
Throughout the flight, the drone maintained real-time ground monitoring capabilities through onboard systems, showcasing its potential in green aviation and low-altitude economic applications, according to AVIC.
