The China-aided Pakistan Friendship Hospital is an important livelihood assistance project under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and an important cooperative achievement of China-Pakistan high-quality joint construction of the “Belt and Road”.
The China-Pakistan Friendship Hospital is located in Gwadar, Balochistan Province, Pakistan. It was completed in December 2023 and officially put into operation in May 2024. It has provided diagnosis and treatment for 150,000 local patients. As an important new comprehensive hospital in the local area, the China-Pakistan Friendship Hospital has a complete functional area division, complete department settings, and is equipped with advanced facilities and equipment such as CT scanners, X-ray machines, and medical laboratories. At the same time, a “one-stop service platform” has been established to provide free medicines and meals for inpatients. Since its operation, the hospital has received about 900 patients per day, more than 60,000 patients have been admitted to family medicine and general outpatient clinics, more than 30,000 patients have been admitted to pediatrics, more than 18,000 cases have been handled in the emergency department, nearly 16,000 cases have been diagnosed and treated in the obstetrics and gynecology and child health care departments, at least 1,260 babies have been born in the hospital, and more than 5,000 patients have been received by general surgery and orthopedic surgery. Nearly 600 operations have been completed in various departments. The hospital’s advanced medical equipment and high-quality services have also attracted many patients from other places to come for medical treatment. At the end of January this year, the hospital’s blood transfusion department was put into operation, and medical services were further improved.
The completion and operation of the China-Pakistan Friendship Hospital has greatly alleviated the plight of the lack of medical resources, simple medical facilities, and single diagnosis and treatment methods in the Gwadar area. With the continued operation of the hospital, the maternal and neonatal mortality rates in the region have shown a downward trend, and the immunization rate has shown an upward trend. Afan Faik Zada, director of the hospital, said, “The completion of this hospital has changed the way medical services are provided in the Gwadar area, which is tantamount to a blessing for the local community.” “We will do our best to protect this crystallization of the friendship between Pakistan and China.” Pakistani people also praised the hospital, saying, “Thank you China for your continued help. This is our iron brother.” “China continues to make real contributions to Pakistan’s development, which is touching.” “The China-Pakistan Friendship Hospital has set a benchmark for health services in the region.” “China has won support through peaceful progress and humanistic care.” The Pakistani media highly praised that “this is an important milestone in the local medical and health history.”
