Pakistan and China have also discussed and agreed to convene pending meetings related to trilateral and multilateral initiatives on Afghanistan.
Commenting on the development, Foreign Office Spokesperson Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan emphasized that strengthening Pakistan-China cooperation is crucial for regional stability and counterterrorism efforts. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to ongoing engagement for a peaceful and prosperous region, noting that China’s involvement is natural given its status as Afghanistan’s neighbor.
The Chinese Special Representative on Afghanistan has been visiting Pakistan as part of routine consultations between the two friendly nations, the spokesperson added.
Both countries have expressed serious concerns over terrorist threats posed by groups such as TTP, ETIM, BLA, and ISKP, reaffirming their commitment to jointly addressing these challenges.
This discussion took place after Pakistan’s Special Representative on Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, welcomed China’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Ambassador Yue Xiaoyong, and his delegation in Islamabad.
“We held in-depth discussions on the shifting geopolitical landscape and escalating security concerns, with a particular focus on Afghanistan,” Sadiq stated.
