Jiuquan Taiyuan New Energy leads in development of green energy as it has significantly transformed Gansu Province into a hub for renewable solutions.
Jiuquan Taiyuan New Energy Co., Ltd. is making significant strides in China’s renewable energy sector by spearheading the development, construction, and operation of green energy infrastructure. The company has been instrumental in transforming Gansu Province into a hub for new energy solutions as it specializes in wind power, photovoltaic energy, and energy storage.
As Jiuquan Taiyuan New Energy is revolutionizing Gansu’s energy landscape, Mr. Saud Faisal Malik visited the project to get a first-hand experience and witness the transformation towards green energy.
One of the company’s landmark projects is a 2000MW wind power initiative in Guazhou County, Gansu Province, with an investment of 1.2 billion RMB. The project, launched in May 2021, saw the installation of 50 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 4MW. By the end of 2021, the turbines were successfully generating power, which is transmitted to Hunan Province through an 800kV Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) transmission system.
This initiative has had a significant environmental impact. The annual power generation of 600 GWh has led to a reduction in emissions, cutting down approximately 180,000 tons of carbon dioxide, 2,200 tons of nitrogen oxides, and 2,500 tons of smoke and dust. This substantial reduction underscores Taiyuan’s commitment to promoting low-carbon and near-zero carbon energy solutions.
Currently, 60% of Gansu’s electricity is derived from new energy sources, with Hexi Corridor alone accounting for 83% of the province’s installed capacity. Jiuquan City, a focal point for new energy expansion, boasts wind power penetration as high as 80%.
However, the increasing reliance on renewable energy has posed challenges related to grid stability. The intermittent and volatile nature of wind power necessitates advanced solutions to maintain a reliable and safe power supply.
To overcome these challenges, Taiyuan has made strategic investments exceeding 70 million RMB in innovative technologies. A key development is the introduction of a 50 MVAr synchronous condenser demonstration project, which effectively addresses fluctuations in wind and photovoltaic power.
The synchronous condenser has played a crucial role in suppressing transient voltage fluctuations from wind turbines and reducing the risk of high-voltage off-grid failures. These efforts highlight Taiyuan’s commitment to pioneering new technologies that ensure the large-scale and stable deployment of renewable energy.
As China continues its transition towards sustainable energy solutions, Jiuquan Taiyuan New Energy Co., Ltd. remains at the forefront of innovation.
