GDA provides clean drinking water to Gwadar households as they were previously consuming contaminated water.
In a significant development, a new water pipeline network from Kalanchi Para has begun supplying clean drinking water to every household in Gwadar.
The Director General of the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA), Saif Ullah Khatran, hailed this as a major step toward ensuring safe drinking water and addressing the city’s longstanding water shortage.
A GDA official informed that previously, residents had no choice but to consume contaminated water due to sewage leaks into old, damaged water pipelines. To resolve this, the GDA replaced the outdated, corroded pipelines with a modern, highly insulated 141-km-long water supply network at a cost of Rs3.5 billion.
The official further stated that areas like Faqir Colony and Dhoor, which have already been connected to the new water supply system, will start receiving potable water this week.
Additionally, the GDA has successfully laid a 158-km-long pipeline from the Shadi Kor and Swad dams to Gwadar city, significantly improving water access.
To enhance water storage capacity, the GDA has also constructed four underground storage tanks in different parts of the city, collectively capable of holding 10 million gallons of water.
