China to host global meeting on women empowerment in 2025 to foster greater gender equality and comprehensive progress of women.
China is set to host the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Beijing in the second half of this year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference during the ongoing annual session of the national legislature, Wang highlighted that China has actively contributed to global women’s development since the 1995 World Conference on Women in Beijing.
He emphasized that gender equality remains a fundamental state policy in China, with national action plans implemented to promote the comprehensive progress of women.
China has also played a key role in supporting UN Women, facilitating 100 maternal and child health projects in developing nations, and training over 200,000 female professionals across more than 180 countries and regions, Wang noted.
Reflecting on the landmark 1995 conference, Wang stated that Beijing once again will serve as a global platform this year for discussions on critical issues related to women’s advancement. He also extended warm wishes to women ahead of International Women’s Day.
