A senior Chinese envoy reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s struggle to restore their legitimate national rights during a United Nations Human Rights Council meeting on Thursday. He urged the international community to work toward a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
Chen Xu, China’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, addressed the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council, where he participated in a dialogue on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ report on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. Expressing deep concern over the humanitarian crisis, particularly in Gaza, he welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached between conflicting parties.
Chen emphasized the importance of ensuring the ceasefire agreement’s sustained and effective implementation while constructively advancing negotiations. He urged the occupying power to uphold international law, respect the human rights of the Palestinian people, and facilitate the safe return of displaced persons to their homes.
Highlighting the two-state solution as the only viable resolution to the Palestinian issue, Chen stressed that Gaza is an integral part of Palestinian territory. He reaffirmed China’s firm stance on Palestinians governing Palestine as the guiding principle for post-war governance in Gaza and strongly opposed any forced displacement of its people.
Chen urged all parties to listen to the voices of Arab nations and the Palestinian people, work towards alleviating the humanitarian crisis, and contribute to a comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution of the Palestinian issue.
