Robots deployed in Chinese coastal areas for rescue missions to help the tourists as China continues to gain attention in cutting edge technology.
Cutting-edge technology, including robots and drones, recently gained widespread attention for their crucial role in rescuing tourists from the water at a well-known holiday spot in Hainan Province.
For the first time, these high-tech devices were deployed by the local emergency management department in a bay in Wanning City during the Spring Festival holiday. The rescue mission also involved a local division of the Blue Sky Rescue (BSR) team, a civilian relief group consisting of surfing instructors, diving enthusiasts, and food delivery workers.
One of the key devices used was a U-shaped water rescue robot, an advanced system capable of quickly reaching individuals in distress or delivering supplies with precision.
“Traditional rescue methods, such as lifeboats or jet skis, can be affected by rough waters, leading to damage, exhaustion, or even endangering the rescuers,” explained Liu Jiao, a BSR team member.
The U-shaped rescue robot provides a safer and more effective alternative. Operated remotely from the shore, it is designed to navigate challenging water conditions with ease, significantly minimizing risks for human rescuers, Liu noted.
This versatile rescue robot can also be deployed in pools, reservoirs, and rivers.
Beyond Hainan, similar robots have already been introduced in coastal areas such as Fujian and Guangdong.
China continues to drive innovation in robotics, integrating these technologies across sectors like agriculture, industry, and specialized services. Efforts are ongoing to accelerate robot adoption, enhancing safety and efficiency in multiple fields.
