China ranks 2nd in Global Soft Power Index and achieved a score of 72.8 out of 100.
China has emerged as the world’s second most influential soft power nation, ranking just behind the United States, according to the sixth annual Global Soft Power Index released by Brand Finance on Thursday.
The report reveals that China surpassed the United Kingdom to secure second place, achieving its highest-ever score of 72.8 out of 100. This growth is attributed to China’s progress in six of the eight key soft power pillars and improvements in two-thirds of the measured attributes. Contributing factors include the Belt and Road Initiative, a greater focus on sustainability, and the strengthening of domestic brands.
The index, compiled from a survey of over 170,000 people across more than 100 countries, assesses global perceptions of all 193 United Nations member states. The results were presented at the Global Soft Power Summit 2025.
While the United States maintained its top position with a record score of 79.5 out of 100, its global reputation ranking dropped four spots to 15th, and its governance ranking declined to 10th place.
Brand Finance Chairman David Haigh noted that the 2025 ranking highlights China’s continuous efforts to enhance its economic appeal, promote its cultural influence, and strengthen its global reputation as a well-governed and secure nation.
