Xi exchanges congratulations with Colombian president on 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Colombian President Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego exchanged congratulatory messages on Friday to mark the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between their countries.
Xi highlighted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China and Colombia have steadily strengthened their relationship based on mutual respect and equality.
He recalled Petro’s successful state visit to China in October 2023, during which both leaders had a productive meeting and announced the formation of a strategic partnership, ushering in a new phase of bilateral relations.
Recognizing Colombia’s significance in Latin America, Xi noted that the country will hold the rotating presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States this year.
Xi reaffirmed his commitment to deepening China-Colombia ties and expressed his willingness to collaborate with Petro to strengthen their strategic partnership, contributing to the broader goal of building a China-Latin America and Caribbean community with a shared future.
In his message, Petro acknowledged the positive outcomes of bilateral relations over the years, emphasizing their benefits for both nations.
He noted that frequent high-level exchanges have reinforced cooperation across various sectors and strengthened the bond between the two peoples.
Petro also highlighted his state visit to China after assuming office, noting that trade and investment between the two nations have continued to grow, further solidifying bilateral ties.
He expressed Colombia’s willingness to work alongside China in addressing global challenges such as world peace, energy transition, and climate change.
