Moscow unveils Spring Festival themed metro train showcasing Chinese tradition and culture.
Moscow introduced a specially themed metro train on Wednesday to celebrate the arrival of the Spring Festival, which marks the traditional Chinese New Year based on the lunar calendar.
During the launch ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui highlighted that the Spring Festival is becoming increasingly popular in Russia. He emphasized its role in Moscow’s cultural landscape and as a vibrant symbol of the deep-rooted friendship between China and Russia.
Ambassador Zhang stated that the train, adorned with Chinese Spring Festival decorations, would captivate Muscovites and international tourists alike. He noted that it offers a unique way for passengers to immerse themselves in the festival’s traditions, sharing the joy and prosperity associated with the occasion.
Furthermore, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova explained that the project aligns with the China-Russia Years of Culture initiative for 2024 and 2025. She pointed out that the images and symbols displayed on the train would naturally introduce Russian citizens to various aspects of Chinese culture.
Moscow Deputy Mayor Maxim Liksutov described the metro train as a representation of the strong relations between China and Russia and a tribute to the Chinese people. He expressed that it provides an opportunity for both locals and visitors to learn more about Chinese culture and Spring Festival customs.
Moreover, the train features a red color scheme, symbolizing happiness, fortune, and prosperity in Chinese tradition. Its exterior is decorated with a snake, representing the zodiac sign of the year, along with an iconic Chinese dragon. Inside, passengers can view images showcasing Chinese New Year celebrations.
Additionally, Moscow launched the “Chinese New Year in Moscow” festival on Manezhnaya Square on Tuesday. This event, filled with Chinese cultural activities, will run until February 9 and take place at multiple locations across the city.
