Chinese Vice President Han Zheng stated on Sunday that China is prepared to collaborate with the United States to align with the strategic direction set by the heads of state and implement the key agreements reached between President Xi Jinping and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. Han emphasized this cooperation as vital for fostering stable, healthy, and sustainable bilateral relations.
Han made these remarks during a meeting with U.S. Vice President-elect J.D. Vance in Washington, D.C., where he is attending Trump’s inauguration as Xi’s special representative, following an invitation from the U.S.
In his discussion with Vance, Han extended President Xi’s greetings to Trump and congratulated Vance on his new role. Han also referenced a recent phone call between Xi and Trump, during which the two leaders reached significant agreements on the future development of China-U.S. relations.
Highlighting the stature of both nations and their people, Han remarked that China and the U.S. are striving toward their respective development goals. By upholding principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, both sides can support each other’s progress, bring mutual benefits, and contribute to global peace and development.
Han underscored the significance of economic and trade ties, noting that while China and the U.S. have differences and frictions, they share substantial common interests and opportunities for collaboration. He emphasized the importance of enhancing dialogue and consultation in these areas.
Vance, in turn, conveyed Trump’s greetings to Xi and referred to the recent productive phone conversation between Trump and Xi, where they discussed key issues related to bilateral relations. Acknowledging the importance of economic and trade ties to both nations, Vance expressed the U.S.’s willingness to build a lasting, cooperative relationship with China.
Vance also noted China’s growing influence in international affairs and emphasized the U.S.’s interest in strengthening dialogue and collaboration with China on global and regional matters to jointly promote world peace and stability.
