PIA resumes flights to Europe after over 4 years as the restoration of flight will significantly benefit the travelers.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has resumed its flights to Europe after a hiatus of four and a half years, according to an official statement.
The statement highlighted the national carrier’s milestone, as the inaugural flight PK-749 departed from Islamabad to Paris on Friday, marking the revival of its European operations.
PIA’s flights to Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States were suspended in June 2020 following a plane crash in Karachi’s residential area.
The resumption of European flights became possible after the European Union Aviation Safety Agency lifted its ban in November of the previous year.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on this development, acknowledging the significant losses the airline faced and the inconvenience caused to Pakistanis living in Europe during the suspension.
The prime minister noted that the restoration of flights would benefit overseas Pakistanis and reflected PIA’s progress towards improvement.
He also expressed appreciation for the efforts of Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Aviation, Minister for Defense Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and related institutions in achieving this success.
