Chinese and Italian officials, along with business leaders, have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration and mutual prosperity during the launch ceremony of the 2024 Development Report on Chinese Enterprises in Italy.
Speaking at the event held on Friday in Milan, Yan Dong, president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Italy (CCCIT), emphasized the significant contributions of Chinese businesses to Italy in areas such as investment, taxation, and employment, despite challenges like protectionist policies and regulatory hurdles.
Yan highlighted that the report provides an in-depth analysis of employment, business operations, and regulatory challenges while offering recommendations to improve Italy’s business environment. “We hope this report will foster deeper bilateral cooperation and mutual understanding,” he said.
Based on survey data from 92 member companies, the report is the first comprehensive study of Chinese enterprises in Italy, outlining their operational performance, contributions, and the difficulties they face.
Liu Kan, Chinese Consul General in Milan, commended the report as a valuable resource for policymakers and business leaders.
Liu reiterated China’s commitment to peaceful development and mutual prosperity, stating that China is ready to share development opportunities with Italy and the global community, safeguard free trade, and ensure the stability of industrial and supply chains.
Andrea Tabella, representing Italy’s Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, expressed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the CCCIT to create new opportunities for growth. He noted that the report would serve as a guide to support Chinese enterprises operating in Italy.
Raffaele Cattaneo, secretary general of the Lombardy Region, underscored the region’s strategic role in China-Italy economic relations, noting that it attracts over 50 percent of Chinese investments in Italy. He added that more than 60 percent of surveyed companies plan to expand their investments in Lombardy within the next three years.
Founded in 2021, the CCCIT is the sole officially recognized organization representing Chinese enterprises in Italy, with over 120 members spanning sectors such as finance, telecommunications, technology, and manufacturing.
The event, attended by around 150 participants, included representatives from Chinese and Italian businesses, trade associations, and government institutions.
