Xi meets United Russia party chairman Medvedev to discuss bilateral relations.
Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China, met with Dmitry Medvedev, Chairman of the United Russia Party, on Thursday.
Xi highlighted the 75-year diplomatic relationship between China and Russia, which has been built on mutual respect, harmonious coexistence, and win-win cooperation. He noted that the partnership sets a global example of constructive relations between neighboring and major countries. Xi expressed China’s readiness to align development strategies with Russia, enhance bilateral cooperation, and deliver shared benefits to both nations.
He emphasized the need for China and Russia to deepen communication and collaboration within multilateral platforms like the United Nations, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Both nations should uphold the UN-centered international system, practice genuine multilateralism, and work to make the global order more equitable. Xi also underscored the importance of maintaining global strategic stability and justice.
Xi reflected on the two-decade relationship between the CPC and the United Russia Party, praising their high-level exchanges and mutual learning on governance. These interactions have enriched institutionalized exchanges and bolstered political and strategic trust between the two nations. He called for stronger collaboration between the parties to guide global governance in the right direction and consolidate support from political parties worldwide, particularly in Global South countries.
On the Ukraine crisis, Xi reiterated China’s stance on the principles of avoiding battlefield expansion, escalation of conflict, and unnecessary provocations. He stressed the importance of promoting de-escalation and creating conditions for a political resolution through international cooperation.
Medvedev, delivering a personal letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Xi, expressed joy at visiting China during the 75th anniversary of both the People’s Republic of China and Sino-Russian diplomatic ties. He credited the robust cooperation between the two nations to the leadership of Xi and Putin and affirmed Russia’s commitment to implementing the consensus reached by their heads of state.
Medvedev acknowledged the unique role of the United Russia Party and the CPC in fostering bilateral ties. He expressed willingness to enhance pragmatic cooperation, strengthen youth exchanges, and promote shared values like patriotism through inter-party dialogue mechanisms. He also appreciated China’s approach to the Ukraine crisis and voiced Russia’s support for initiatives such as the Group of Friends for Peace, led by China, Brazil, and other nations, aimed at achieving a political resolution.
