Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Sunday that the 5th China-Central Asia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting strengthened mutual trust and expanded comprehensive cooperation among the participating nations.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these remarks during a joint press conference with the foreign ministers of five Central Asian countries in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, after the meeting concluded.
Wang and the Central Asian foreign ministers engaged in detailed discussions to initiate preparations for the 2nd China-Central Asia Summit, which is set to take place in Kazakhstan next year.
The Chinese foreign minister outlined five key agreements reached during the meeting.
- Enhanced Cooperation: All six nations committed to following the guidance of their heads of state and strengthening the China-Central Asia mechanism.
- Modernization Goals: The countries pledged to advance modernization by deepening cooperation in areas such as satellite navigation, poverty alleviation, desertification control, higher education, and cultural exchanges.
- Regional Stability: They agreed to uphold regional peace by implementing the Global Security Initiative, opposing foreign interference, and supporting Afghanistan’s peaceful reconstruction.
- Cultural Exchange: The nations emphasized mutual cultural understanding, with China offering 1,500 training opportunities and 600 new scholarships over three years to build talent in critical sectors.
- Multilateralism and Justice: The countries committed to promoting multilateralism, safeguarding international fairness, strengthening cooperation in international and regional affairs, and opposing practices like “decoupling and breaking chains.”
The six nations also agreed to fully support China’s upcoming presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), aiming to drive new growth and elevate the SCO to greater heights.
