Syngenta enhances China-Pakistan agricultural cooperation at CISCE as it emphasized the commitment to fostering collaboration.
At the 2024 China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE), visitors admired the variety of agricultural products, from plump rice grains to fragrant sesames and full-bodied peppers.
A representative from Syngenta Group China emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering collaboration between China and Pakistan through its Agriculture Value Chain (AVC) model. This approach not only helps Pakistani farmers access new markets and increase incomes but also diversifies Chinese consumers’ dining options and expands the sources of oilseed and cash crop imports.
The AVC model offers practical benefits to Pakistani farmers by supplying agricultural inputs, providing production services, and connecting China’s market demand to global supply chains. Through bartering arrangements in key agricultural areas, the model ensures efficient exchange of products, creating mutual benefits for stakeholders.
Sesame cultivation in Pakistan has tripled over the past five years, with more than one-third of the export-focused produce reaching China. Syngenta’s AVC initiative aims to integrate quality sesame from Pakistani farmers into the international value chain, particularly in the Chinese market.
In May 2023, Syngenta launched its first APAC Centrigo Flagship Center in Okara, Punjab, serving over 500 farmers managing more than 10,000 acres of crops, including sesame, rice, corn, vegetables, and potatoes. Farmers benefit from premium inputs like seeds, fertilizers, and crop protection, as well as services such as drone spraying and mechanization. Farmer Mian Bashir Ahmad reported a 10% increase in sesame yields and a 30% higher market price due to improved quality.
Beyond sesame, Pakistani chilis are gaining popularity among Chinese consumers. Syngenta is working with Chinese companies to explore contract farming of chili in Pakistan, aiming to develop varieties tailored to Chinese preferences. This initiative not only strengthens agricultural supply chains but also enhances value chain resilience.
Syngenta remains committed to boosting local farmers’ interests and advancing the global agricultural supply chain. Through collaborative efforts and innovative practices, the company aims to enhance productivity and market opportunities for both nations.
