Xi, Lee Hsien Loong discuss strengthening China-Singapore ties and closer alignment of development strategies.
Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Singapore’s Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Tuesday, emphasizing the importance of aligning development strategies and enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Xi praised Lee’s contributions as Singapore’s prime minister and commended his consistent support for fostering strong China-Singapore ties. Highlighting the establishment of an all-round, high-quality, future-oriented partnership last year, Xi noted that it provides strategic guidance for the advancement of bilateral relations.
With the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Singapore approaching next year, Xi called for strengthened high-level exchanges, closer alignment of development strategies, and deeper collaboration across various sectors. He emphasized that these efforts would benefit both nations and contribute significantly to regional stability and prosperity.
Marking the 30th anniversary of the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park in Jiangsu Province, Xi recognized it as a successful model of bilateral collaboration and Singapore’s active role in China’s reform and opening-up process.
Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to maintaining long-term economic stability and achieving high-quality growth. He welcomed Singapore’s continued leadership in joint projects and urged cooperation in digital and green development to advance the partnership in new directions.
Further, amid global challenges, Xi stressed the need for unity, multilateralism, and inclusivity. He expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Singapore to promote genuine multilateralism, uphold fairness, reject divisions, and work toward building a shared Asian future.
Lee Hsien Loong, reflecting on his visit to China last year, noted the strengthened ties between the two nations and expressed confidence in China’s future. He reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to deepening cooperation and participating in China’s modernization.
Moreover, underlining the complexity of current global dynamics, Lee called for a long-term perspective and multilateral efforts to tackle challenges and deliver shared benefits to people.
The two leaders also exchanged views on key issues, including China-U.S. relations and the regional geopolitical situation.
